After a 44-year career in Wildlife
Management, Research and Teaching, I am now freelancing in wildlife
photography and writing. My experiences when directing and doing
research on a variety of species, from sea urchins in the Aleutians
to elephants in East Africa, have given me an informed appreciation
of nature and have influenced my photography. I strive for accurate
and artistic representations of nature, photos that depict the
"essence" of a species as well as its appearance.
I was born and raised in Western Oregon,
went to college at Oregon State University, University of Montana,
and Washington State University. During and between university
studies, I worked for wildlife agencies in Oregon, Washington,
Montana, and California. I spent 2 years in East Africa during
the early 1960s with my family while doing research as a Senior
Fulbright Scholar. I spent the majority of my career at the University
of Arizona on the Wildlife Faculty. My contacts within the academic
and wildlife community open doors, enabling me to photograph
on-going wildlife research and management projects. |
