The Elegant trogon (Trogon elegans). In the US it breeds and some will winter in the mountains of SE Arizona. Its range extends into Mexico and Central America. It was previously named the Coppery-tailed trogon but elegant certainly fits too. In this photo the male is trying to entice a female to accept the cavity in a Sycamore tree as a nest site.  This male is establishing a territory by calling, defending it from other males. It has a variety of calls, some sounding like a wild turkey with a sore throat.

Harris's hawks (Parabuteo unicinctus) have a social structure unique among N. A. raptors. They often hunt, nest, and raise young cooperatively. Once prey is killed the group feeds. "Mantling" or trying to hide the prey under their wings. Even when alone on a kill, like this quail, hawks will mantle.

A single male perches on a branch of a Saguaro cactus. A group starts the hunt from a perch on a Saguaro. A single Harris' hawk checks out a Cactus wren's nest for "contents."
